Case Manager

LECG, Oct 2004-Sept 2005

Description

At LECG, I was in charge of handling all expert testimony before trial. This included editing for grammar, rewriting confusing parts, doing content edits (a more abstract version of fact checking) and keeping things organized. And by organized, I mean organized--if I was told I needed to find document GNV2077 parts K through M, I had about five minutes to find it in our room holding several thousand binders

The biggest challenge

Quick retrieval of legal documents became the most important part of my job despite it taking up less than 5% of my time. I didn't know it at the time, but this was an amazing introduction to broader database concepts, particularly indexing. My system was somewhat naive (me being a recent college grad at the time), but it was clear enough that someone else could take over when I left.
